Why car owners choose Digital Servicebook

Everything in one place

Service and repair history for the whole family's cars, regardless of which workshop has carried out the work. The old stamp book can be uploaded so that the history does not start over.

The warranty comes with the documentation

The factory warranty remains in place regardless of car brand, when the service has been carried out according to the regulations and registered correctly. You have a free choice of workshop, and it is the documentation that determines a warranty case.

Value holds on sale

A documented service history makes the car easier to sell and makes mileage fraud difficult to hide. The buyer can have the history documented rather than having to take your word for it.

What is the Digital Servicebook?

A brief introduction to how the car's service history is collected digitally and what you as a car owner get out of it.

What is a digital service book?

A digital service book is the car's service history stored online instead of as stamps in a booklet in the glove compartment. The workshop registers the work when it is done, and the documentation is linked to the car rather than to the paper. The history therefore does not disappear when the booklet does, and it follows the car on to the next owner.

How to maintain the factory warranty

The factory warranty is the car manufacturer's own promise to cover certain defects for a period of time after the purchase. It is not the same as the right of complaint, which is your claim against the person who sold you the car. The two things run side by side, and it is the factory warranty that the service is important for.

The warranty lasts when three things are in place. The service is carried out on time according to the manufacturer's intervals. It is carried out according to the manufacturer's regulations with approved spare parts and oil. And it is documented. The latter is what people most often lack, precisely when it matters.

This can cause the warranty to lapse

A warranty case rarely falls on the repair itself. It falls on the documentation. The typical reasons are that a service interval has been exceeded, that spare parts or oil have been used that do not meet the manufacturer's specification, or that there is no proof at all that the service was performed.

Therefore, a comprehensive history is more than a convenient overview. It is what you should be able to put on the table if the manufacturer asks.

You decide where the car is serviced

There is a free choice of workshop, and the factory warranty does not depend on which sign hangs above the gate. A free workshop may service the car according to the manufacturer's regulations, and the warranty remains. It has been EU law since 2010, and it is the documentation that decides a warranty case, not the name of the workshop.

Why service history means money when selling

A car with a proven history is easier to sell and keeps its price better. The buyer can see what has been done and when, instead of having to believe in a promise. At the same time, mileage fraud becomes difficult to hide because the mileage is recorded at every service. This protects you both when you sell and when you buy used.

If the service book is lost

This is a common situation, especially when buying a used car, but the history is rarely completely lost. The car brand or dealer can sometimes issue a duplicate. The garages that have serviced the car keep their own records and can often provide them. For some car brands, the history can also be retrieved from the manufacturer's own portal. Once the parts have been assembled digitally, they cannot be lost again.

Paper service book or digital service book

If a warranty case arises, you must be able to prove that the service has been carried out on time and in accordance with the regulations. If the booklet has been lost or filled in incorrectly, you are in a weak position.
The factory warranty is documented — Each registration is dated, linked to the car and carried out by the workshop itself. You can always show that the service has been complied with and the factory warranty remains, even when the work is done in a free workshop.
The booklet is a loose piece of paper in the glove compartment. It can be put away, forgotten to be stamped or left with the previous owner, and you typically only discover this when you need it.
The history is linked to the car — The documentation is on the vehicle and not on a piece of paper. If the car is sold, the history will follow.
A stamp shows that someone has been there, but not what was made.
Each record shows the work done — Date, mileage, type of service and the work performed are registered. Invoice and checklist can be attached.
The odometer reading is only in one place and can be changed without anyone noticing.
The mileage is recorded every time — Because the number is saved at every service, a jump in the mileage becomes visible. This makes mileage fraud difficult to hide.
The buyer must take the seller's word for what has been done on the car.
The buyer can look it up themselves — The history can be searched on the license plate or chassis number, so the documentation speaks for itself.
If you lose the booklet, the history starts over.
The old history can be saved — Take pictures of the old pages and put them in. Then the stamp history is preserved along with all new service.

Good to know

Your factory warranty also applies to independent workshops. It has been EU law since 20101, and the only requirement is that the work is documented correctly2.

1 · EU Regulation 461/2010 The block exemption for motor vehicles
2 · FDM on warranty and free workshops The documentation requirement in practice

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Digital Servicebook free for car owners?

Yes, it's completely free for car owners, both in the web app and in the mobile app. You create a user, add the family's cars and can view the history without a subscription.

Does a digital service book work for all car brands?

Yes. The service can be registered regardless of the car make, and the factory warranty remains in place as long as the work is carried out according to the manufacturer's regulations and documented correctly. It is the documentation, not the car brand, that determines a warranty case.

How do I register my car?

Create a free user in the web or mobile app and search for the car by number plate or chassis number. Then the car's history is linked to your account.

What do I do with the old paper service book?

Take pictures of the pages and upload them. Then the stamp history is preserved along with all new service, and you have it all in one place.

Do I need to use the car brand's own digital service book to maintain the warranty?

No, and this is a common misunderstanding. There is no requirement to use the car brand's own service book. The requirement is that the service is carried out according to the manufacturer's regulations and registered correctly. This can be done in the Digital Service Book for all car brands.

Do I lose the factory warranty if I choose a free workshop?

No. You have the freedom to choose a workshop. The factory warranty remains in place as long as the service is carried out according to the manufacturer's regulations with approved spare parts and oil, and as long as it is registered correctly. It is the documentation, not the workshop's sign, that decides the case.

What do I do if I am missing the car's service book?

First, contact the car brand or dealer you bought the car from. They can sometimes issue a duplicate. Otherwise, the garages that have serviced the car can often hand over their records, and more can retrieve the history from the car brand's OE portal. The history can then be collected digitally so that it is not lost again.

Can I see the service history of a used car before I buy it?

Yes. Look up the car on the number plate or VIN and view the recorded service and repair history. This is the easiest way to detect mileage fraud and gaps in maintenance before the money changes hands.

What is the difference between factory warranty and warranty?

The factory warranty is the car manufacturer's own promise to cover certain defects for a period of time after the purchase. The right of complaint is your claim against the person who sold you the car. The two things run side by side, and it is the factory warranty that service and documentation are important for.
